Valley of Flowers, Uttaranchal the Valley of Flowers of Himalayas

Valley of flowers  is located in the Himalayas of the state of Uttaranchal  at an altitude of about 3800 meters above sea level surrounded by the snowy mountains.  For many centuries the Valley of flowers laid frozen during the winter months  and then in summer bursts in to youthful beauty as the snow melts in summer. Valley of flowers is a world heritage site  and is situated in the upper expansions of Bhyundar Ganga in the far interior of Garhwal Himalayas.

The Valley ta at an altitude of  3,250 meters to 6,750 meters above mean sea level.  There are legends  associated with this beautiful valley  in the epics of the ramayana and Mahabharatha.  The Valley of Flowers National Park  has boundaries  from Ghangharia but the main part of the  valley starts only after crossing the gorge and the stream starting from Nar Parvat.  At the entrance of the Valley stands the snow-clad peak of Ratban Parvat, towards the left is Nar Parvat, which separates the Badrinath valley from the valley of flowers and to the right is the  dense Birch forest on the hillsides.

While returning from their Kamet expedition Frank Smythe and Holdsworth stumbled on this Valley in the year 1931 and they felt that at once they were transported from a region of sausterity to  a fairyland full of beautiful flowers most of them dwarf but brilliant in colour.  This Park is spread over an area of 87.5 square kilometers  and has the largest collection of wild flowers.  The beaty of the Valley of flowers National ark is further enhanced by the Pushpawati River flowing in the area  as well as the towering Rataban peak in the background.



The bloom in the Valley of flowers starts immediately after  the meltin of the snow but the peak flowering time is from mid July to mid August. You can se around 300 species of wild flowers  and these myriad shades of the valley is attracting tourists  and travellers through the years.

Trekking to Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers 
Hemkund Sahib is located at an altitude of about 4329 meters , in the heavenly environment. You will have to go for a steep trek from Ghangharia for about four to six hours and this is also a very important pilgrimage for people of all faihs and not just sikhs and hindus. There is a sikh gurudwara as well as a Lakshman temple surrounded by the 7 snow covered peaks and their glaciers. The glaciers from Hathi Parvat and Saptrishi peaks feed the lake and a small stream called Himganga flows out from here. 
There are Fixed departure trekking trips to the Valley of flowers and these trips are arranged for a minimum of 2 persons to a maximum of 6 persons to make the trip eco friendly.
