Amboli Falls

The southernmost district of Maharashtra known for its ancient forts and temples is the Sindhudurg district. The picturesque destinations can be well imagined when you know that it lies between the Konkan coast and the Western Ghats. The famous Amboli hill station and waterfall is in this district. Known as one of world’s Eco-hot spots, this place is in the Western Ghats known for its bracing and delighting environs. It has a 400 ft high waterfall which is a favorite tourist spot among youngsters. It receives very high rainfall and the hill station blooms after monsoon. During this time, small waterfalls adorn the way up to the hill station. Amboli waterfall can be seen if you drive 1 km from Amboli. Other important waterfalls to see in Sindhudurg are Nagartas fall which is a 320 ft fall and Savdav waterfalls, both around 10 km from Kankavli town. Napne Falls which is 250 ft high is situated 15 km from Vaibhavwadi. A 300 ft high Vyaghreshwar waterfall is 30 km from Tarale which is on Mumbai-Goa highway and Chinchghar Falls which is 10km from Kudal town are also popular picnic spots. Best season to visit these lovely waterfalls are July to November.

Chinaman’s falls

Mahabaleswar is another famous hill station in Maharashtra in the Western Ghats. Around 3 km away from this cool hill station; an exotic waterfall can be viewed falling to the Koyna valley. This lovely waterfall is known as the Chinaman’s fall which is on the Carviali Road, which can also be reached by the Tiger Path Road. A walk through the woods towards the falls is a de-stressing one. The Babington point is a popular spot near Mahabaleswar for the picturesque view of the waterfall and Koyna valley. Chinaman’s fall is 120 km away from Pune in Satara District of Maharashtra. Rail and road connection can be used from Pune or Mumbai.

Lingamala Falls

Another must see wonder near Mahabaleswar is the lovely Lingmala Waterfalls. This is the most popular one among the waterfalls near Mahabaleswar. The water sprays down from the top of Venna valley from a height of 600 ft and most of the time rainbows can be seen. This waterfall is located 6 km from Mahabaleshwar on the Mahabaleswar-Pune road. The height of this waterfall and the beauty of the valley have always attracted tourists and this is a favorite spot of photographers. Nature can be pictured at its best from the Venna valley and a view of Venna Lake is also a lovely sight. After the monsoon showers, tourists get a wonder struck view of this tall waterfall.

Kune Falls

Lonavala-Khandala, the twin hill stations in Maharashtra are the most visited hill stations near Mumbai and Pune. In the very middle of Lonavla-Khandala valley, a milky gush of water can be sighted which has a total height of 659 ft. A spectacular sight of this waterfall can be photographed especially after the monsoon. This waterfall called Kune falls is a three tiered cascade which can be seen when we travel from Mumbai to Pune while coming out of the last tunnel. This is on the old Mumbai-Pune highway and not on the Mumbai-Pune express way.

Thoseghar waterfalls

Thoseghar is a breathtaking waterfall near Satara. Stunning beauty of the high cliffs, lush green vegetation and chilling climate would attract you towards this destination. Journey to this waterfall is adventurous as well as dangerous. The waterfall is at its best during rainy season from July and the roaring cascade falls from a height of 1150 ft which is really an amazing sight. A full view of the falls can be obtained from Chalkevadi and you can walk down to the valley to enjoy this waterfall very closely. There are safe platforms from where you can watch this wonderful silver cascade. The windmill farm in Chalkewadi is another lovely sight nearby. The calm and cool nature rejuvenates you to a great extend. This waterfall is on the Pune –Bangalore highway near Satara and 20 km from Satara city. Satara has a railway station and it is well connected through road from almost all the cities in Maharashtra. Pune is 120 km from Satara.

Chinchoti Waterfalls

Trekking lovers… Here’s a pretty trekking destination for you. Chinchoti waterfall can be reached through Kaman Village on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Another route is an adventurous trek through the forest through Tungareshwar. Without proper guidance it is not advised to go there into the deep jungle. The thundering sound can be heard miles before you see the waterfall. You have to cross a couple of streams to reach below this stunning waterfall. A thrilling trek through the tranquil paths of the forest environ would finally reveal the spectacular 120 ft high Chinchoti waterfall. This location is in Thane district and the nearest railway station is Vasai which is on the western route of Mumbai’s local route. Kaman Phata is where you need to alight if you come by local bus.

Dabhosa Waterfalls

Another wonderful waterfall in Thane district which is a 300 ft fall called Dabhosa waterfall. It is situated in the Dabhosa village on the Jawhar-Silvassa road which is 18 km from Jawhar. The waterfall is in its full gush during monsoon and the weather is very nice almost all through the year. There is a camp site nearby which attracts lots of tourists for night stay. Adventure sports including kayaking, rappelling, laddering, valley crossing and zip line, trekking and fishing are available. Although the waterfall spot is famous for treks and nature walks, night stay is more loved by tourists as it gives a complete relaxation in the nature’s lap with the mild sound of the falls as the lullaby. This lovely getaway is 80 km from Nashik and 180 km from Mumbai.

Dudhsagar Falls

Dudhsagar is a famous waterfall located in the eastern border of Goa and Karnataka. Rainy season makes it a milky white fall when water plunges deep down from a 1020 ft height and a width of 100 ft making its name literally true, ‘Sea of Milk’. This spellbound waterfall is on the beautiful Mandovi River in the state of Goa. This waterfall can be viewed when we travel on train through Londa-Madgoan railway route in Delhi-Goa express, Pune-Ernakulam Express or Miraj Castle Rock passenger. The waterfall located in the middle of tropical forest is situated 60 Km from Margoa and 10 kilometers from Kulem Railway Station. Although this waterfall is in Goa, this is a popular picnic spot for most of the Maharashtrians. Climbing to the top of the falls is really an adventurous task and a breathtaking view of the falls from the top is only for adventurous people. India’s largest wildlife sanctuary, Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular place to visit near this falls.

Dhobi falls

Another picturesque sight near Mahabaleswar is Dhobi falls. This waterfalls drop from a height of 450 ft down to a beautiful valley and becomes a part of Koyna River. You get a fantastic view of this fall from the south of Elphinston point. This is 3km away from Mahabaleshwar on the road connecting Petit road and old Mahabaleswar road. You can see this water cascade in its full flow in the month of July till December.
