Weekend With The Family! Day 2

9.25 a.m. – Awaken by Malim’s knocks on the door. For a minute, before I opened me eyes, I thought I was under the covers, in my room, at home... the sound of Malim’s knocks are the sound of home.

With the family up, and eager to get the day started, we agreed to assemble at Feast Restaurant to have breakfast together.

Breakfast here was just like breakfast at home! Hanissya – in her own world chomping down whatever is in front of her, Malim – throwing his baby tantrums while Dad attempts to shove food into his mouth... and failing, Dad – attempting to shove food into Malim’s mouth... and failing, and Mom – watching Dad’s failed attempts at feeding Malim, making sure Hanissya is eating the right stuff, going over the schedual for the rest of my trip WHILE enjoying a bowl of muesli. Meet Mom, the ultra multi-tasker!

After breakfast, we made our way to Tanjung Rhu, where we planned to laze around on the beach, have lunch and maybe do a little shopping.

A 15 minute drive away from Pantai Tengah, where The Sheraton Resort is located, is the area of Tanjung Rhu. Tanjung Rhu is famous for their clean, beautiful beaches and luxurious resorts such as the Tanjung Rhu Resort and the world renowned Four Season Resort. Other attractions in Tanjung Rhu are the mangrove tours and the Kilim River tours, where eagle feeding and fish feeding is available. These tour packages can be purchased at most tour agencies, and would cost around RM150-RM170 depending on the tour agent and demand.

Once we arrived at the beach at Tanjung Rhu, the kids ran off onto the beach, to play in the sand, Mom sat in the shade to read her book and Dad went off exploring as he always does. And of course, I took the opportunity to have a photo session!

After about an hour, with the Sun barring down on us as it was noon, we got cleaned up, packed out things and headed out to have lunch!

A five minute drive away, past the Four Seasons and Tanjung Rhu Resort, lays a small area leading to a public beach called Pantai Tanjung Rhu, where there were a few shops, restaurants and tour booths. The shops in this area sold the same things; tie-dye t-shirts, batik clothes, post cards and trinkets. The prices were around the same as other shopping destinations such as Kuah Town or Pantai Cenang, but I’m sure with a little haggling, anyone’s desired price can be met.

After watching my mom practically buy out an entire store, we all sat down for lunch at a restaurant recommended by one of the shop owners, called Restaurant Pak Ali.

Don’t let the simple décor and lack of patrons fool you, this restaurant had one of the best Tom Yam soups I’ve ever tasted! To accompany our soup, we ordered Nasi Goreng Kampung (Village style fried rice) and Fried Chicken. YUMMMM.

(Feeling the heat!)

OH! And by the way, for some reason, I really really really enjoyed the Milo Ice Pak Ali makes as well. Woooh!

(Yummmm)

After a delicious lunch, it was time to head back to the hotel for a nap before heading out to the Pasar Malam Kuah for dinner.

9.05 p.m. – By the time had arrived at the Pasar Malam, some of the stalls were already closing as it was already quite late. (Please take note that the Pasar Malam Kuah starts at 6 p.m. and ends around 10 p.m.) But nevertheless, we still did a bit of shopping at the clothing stalls and enjoyed tasting different foods offered at the Pasar Malam.

With our stomachs completely stuffed with delicacies such as Satay, deep fried fish balls and Ayam Pangang (Barbequed Chicken) it was time to head back to the hotel to watch horror flicks! Hope I don’t get nightmares! Eeep!
