Oya Kampung Houses

I am not very sure why most of the kampung houses in Oya are built inland, instead of near the river as I would have expected. The river is never far away, but these kampungs are more similar to inland kampungs in non-coastal areas then the more common river kampungs in coastal areas. The Government resettlement program probably had something to do with this.

Like most kampungs, the residents like to paint their houses in bright colours. Somehow, the high-contrast colour schemes always seem to work, producing very pleasing results. This is probably due to the inner artistic nature of the people.

This is one of my favourites. Notice how the colour of the curtains contrast beautifully with the colour of the house.
