Belize Small Country Central America Travel World

Belize Small Country Central America Travel World
Belize is a small country on the east coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico to the northwest and Guatemala to the west and south. Honduras is located 75 km to the southeast. In Spanish, Belize is often called Belice. Formerly known as British Honduras until 1973, Belize is a former British colony for more than a century. The name "Belize" is taken from the Belize River.

European settlers began with British Jews, pirates and sailors stranded ship in early 1638. "Settlement of Belize in the Gulf of Honduras" grew from a little earlier residence at Belize Town and St. George's Caye into the de-facto colony of Great Britain during the late 18th century. In the early 19th century, the settlement was called British Honduras, and in 1871 became a Crown Colony.
