On this website we want to show you some hidden gems of the northern part of Vancouver Island. Usually when you hear about Vancouver Island you only hear about Victoria, the main city in the very south, the ferry terminal in Nanaimo and Tofino beside the Pacific Rim National park on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Hardly ever do you hear about the northern part of the Island. If you do hear about it it will be about whale watching tours from Telegraph Cove which bring people closer to Orca Whales (Killer Whales), Humpback Whales, Sealions, Bald Eagles and if very lucky maybe even close to some pacific white sided dolphins.
BUT - there is much much more to see and to do in the North. Beautiful scenery, great hiking trails, golden or rocky beaches, coastal communities and the undiscovered west coast at Cape Scott Provincial Park, just to name a few. Don't miss the little island communities such as Sointula and the native first nations village of Alert Bay, both are accessible with BC Ferries.
The infrastructure is getting better, the Ferry is leaving again from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert (the getaway to Alaska) and other communities. Campsites are available in the most locations (i.e. Cluxewe Resort Campsite) and even nice hotel accommodation was established in 2005 (Black Bear Resort in Port McNeill). There are also beautiful B&B's available on the waterfront in Port McNeill (Beach House B&B, AtWatersEdge B&B).
