Sudu is the main coffee house, though the hotel prefers to call it a restaurant. The design is pan-Asian,with an open kitchen concept. There are different corners to choose from, from an open common dining area in the middle to a more private elevated lounge area. There is also a private dining room big enough for around 10 persons, though it is entirely encased in glass.
Most diners come here for the buffet dinner, which also comes with a selection of main course. The buffet is divided into several sections with Asian and Western selections, a large selection of different types of cheese and cold cuts, and an endless selection of desserts.
The buffet theme changes from time to time. When I went, it was more of a seafood theme, which suited me fine. However, the highlight was the cheese selection which had a variety of interesting cheeses from all over the world. There was also a fine selection of different olive oils and condiments to go with bread. Great !
After all that, the main course usually comes as a bit of a let down. I ordered the oven-baked sea bass. It was topped with a baked mussel in a herb crust, and pumpkin puree on the side. The fish was a bit bland, and the pumpkin puree not a very good match. I guess it's back to the buffet !
As I said earlier, the dessert selection was really good. By that time though, my stomach was having a bit of a protest. I decided to go for the petits fours. I must say that Hilton always seems to excel at pastries, and these were all very good.
