Eating in Kuching - Dinner at Garden Hill Restaurant and Lounge

The Permata Carpark Complex is right in Kuching City centre, behind the Riverside Majestic Hotel. Right on top of the carpark complex is the popular Topspot Foodcourt famous for it's seafood. On level 4 there is a small restaurant and lounge called Garden Hill, serving Western bistro food. The internal area is small and cosy, and decorated more as a lounge then a dining room. There is a bigger al fresco outside with nice views of the city. The open area is very nice, it is a pity that the landscaping and decor has not fully capitalized on the potential.

The food here is a selection of pasta and meat items. The pasta dishes are surprisingly good. We started with the garlic toasts which are freshly made and served with coleslaw.

The seafood pasta came with fresh prawns, squid and mussels. The creamy sauce is nicely seasoned and was light enough not to overpower the seafood.

The grilled lamb cutlets are tender and flavourful, but the sauce was a bit salty. The side salad had a light olive oil and vinegar dressing which complemented the meat quite well.

We also ordered the mixed platter which came with breaded fish sticks, grilled lamb chops, deepfried squid and sauted mussels. All the items were good, especially the squid which was tender and sweet.

The next time you have a craving for Western food in Kuching, check out Garden Hill and you may be pleasantly surprised.
